(tip) one single app for all public transportation planning in the Netherlands

A recurrent type of question here is about domestic trips within Amsterdam, intercity day trips, travel to and from Schiphol airport.

You can use the official public transportation planner (www.9292.nl) for all these questions. It is fed with information of all train, tram and local/regional bus companies. More importantly, it is updated on real time so you can check whether some train or light rail is late. I highly recommend it. Download the app and have it with you.

It will give you details on which platforms to board, link for waking directions to the stop and more. You can feed any address and most touristic attractions right off the app.

And for those who are staying somewhat longer and with the help of the amazingly practical 9292.nl want to venture out, the OV-chipkaart is the all-purpose nationwide payment method on all public transport (train, metro, tram, urban and regional buses, and some river ferries). The card costs EUR 7,50 and needs a EUR 20 minimum deposit to use it on the train. Best bought at the railway station, where it can be activated for use on trains.
www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/traveling-with-the-ov-chipkaart gives some more information.
For getting back the balance at the end of your stay: www.ov-chipkaart.nl/customer-service/self-service/refund-of-credit.htm Be sure to be left with less than EUR 30 credit on the card!
