We are stopping by Mauritshuis Museum on our way to Bruges after landing at AMS. We will be in a rental car with our luggage in the back. Is there a safe spot we could park our car near Mauritshuis Museum so we an pop in/have lunch? Thank you!
Oh dear, I’m afraid to say that my only advice would be to not do this. Are you really sure you want to do this journey by car? In general, a car is a major hassle in central The Hague and it certainly is in Bruges. A car with luggage in it, is an even bigger hassle. I don’t feel comfortable recommending a place to park your car, because break ins can happen everywhere unfortunately and no car park will be 100% secure. It would be an awful start to your holiday if your luggage got stolen.
If you do insist on doing this, check Google maps for the nearest parking garage to the Mauritshuis. Be aware though that there is lots of reconstruction going on in the immediate area around the Mauritshuis.
Edited to add; will you be doing this after arriving from the US? If so, that’s another reason to reconsider this plan. You really don’t want to drive on unfamiliar roads while jet lagged.
Thanks for the advice. Yes, we will need to drive as we are traveling to places that are not convenient via any other modes of transportation. We've also driven many times after a long flight - never an issue. Thanks for the concern!
We do want to visit some important pieces of art in Mauritshuis and won't have another opportunity to pass through. If anyone is aware of a secure garage, I'd love the recommendation. Otherwise, I can look into a bag drop within the museum. Will still need a great garage either way. Thanks!
Plein 25, 2511 CS Den Haag, Netherlands Is a below ground parking lot by the museum. We noticed it while eating in the area on our way to the museum. I can’t comment on its security.
It is a small museum and there are no luggage storage facilities there.
From the website of the museum:-
Unfortunately, we cannot store suitcases, trolleys, fold-up bicycles
and other luggage in our cloakroom. If you need to store larger items
during your visit, we recommend that you use the luggage lockers at
The Hague Central Station. The Mauritshuis is only a 10-minute walk
from the station.
That sounds reasonable.
You could take the train direct from the airport, drop your luggage, visit and lunch, then reclaim your luggage and rent your car.
The Hague is quite close to Leiden and the airport.
