I'm trying to purchase tickets for April on the Thalys website-but it won't allow me to purchase for my specific date (it is <60days out).
When I look there are direct trains for my route on their website. When I look at the tickets on the Rick Steves' website it gives me a non direct train. Has anyone experienced this and what options would be suggested.

That is because Rick's site is just a link to Raileurope, and the Eurail Pass is only valid on the Thalys with an expensive seat reservation. Stick to the links given above.
