Has anyone recently hired a taxi from Schiphol to central Amsterdam? I am looking for a reliable company for a round trip ride and want a recent recommendation because the quality of taxi companies can change over time.

If you mean a regular metered taxi, you don’t really have any choice. They line up in a special lane and you have use the one at the front of the que.
A faster and cheaper option us to simply take the train from the airport to Centraal.

We had no problems with taxis in the Netherlands. As the previous post stated, you can easily catch a taxi when you arrive at the airport. To return, you can ask your hotel the day before to book a taxi for you. In our experience, the taxis arrived as scheduled.

We just take a short train ride from Schiphol to the Central Station in Amsterdam. From there, it's either a taxi or tram to our accommodations.

The biggest taxi company in the city is TCA. Their phone number is easy to remember:
7777777 (seven sevens).
