Suggestions for one day/one night in Amsterdam

We will disembark from a river cruise 1/4/23 in the morning in Amsterdam. We plan to spend the day in Amsterdam and spend one night before an 11 am flight the next day. Any suggestions for the best area to stay in or a hotel? We don’t mind taking a taxi or car service to the airport if needed. Thinking we may visit the Ann Frank house and spend time strolling the city. We will have taken a canal cruise the previous day on our river cruise itinerary.

Get tickets to Anne Frank well in advance.
We prefer to stay in the pretty Center Canal Ring area atHotel L’ Ambassade on the Herengracht Canal.

Recommend you stay at an hotel near the train station and take the train to Schiphol airport. That will likely be the quickest way to get the airport. With a taxi/car service you might get stuck in morning traffic at that time.

For sure book your Anne Frank house tickets in advance. They release the next month's tickets on the first Tuesday of the month (midnight, AMS time, which for me was late Monday afternoon). So check late afternoon on Monday, December 5 and you should be able to book a time slot.

If you're heading back to the US on your flight, build in plenty of time to get to airport in the morning - hopefully will be better than current times that recommends arriving 3 hours minimum ahead (check airport status here). It's easy train ride from Centraal station to airport, so I'd pick a hotel close to there. You don't say where or what time your cruise disembarks, but check that the hotel has luggage storage so you don't have to drag it around on your one day in Amsterdam.

The Skylounge is fun for a great view of the city. It’s a short walk from the train station and located on the rooftop of a hotel.

If you are on Viking, stay at the doubletree hotel walkable from the river cruise port. The doubletree is close to Amsterdam Centraal where you can catch the tram to the Anne frank house. From the Anne frank house you can walk north through the Jordaan neighborhood.
Take the train from Amsterdam Centraal to the airport. It’s easy and cheaper than a taxi.
