Shopping advice

So I’m enjoying my time in Amsterdam, loving the vibe and the art. When I was at the Frans Hals museum early in my visit I saw a lovely tea towel that I should have bought but didn’t because I thought I’d see it or an equivalent, at one of the other museums in Amsterdam. Perfect gift for sister, daughter etc.

So as you can guess I’ve struck out at the Van Gogh, the Rijks, the Mauritshuis. Argh!! Nothing of similar quality or appeal. Can anyone recommend a store in town that might carry some non kitschy tourist gifts? I’m not a shopper but if I had any suggestions I’d be happy to check them out.
Thanks.

I really enjoyed shopping in the Jordaan neighborhood, as they had some really interesting and unique shops. There was one shop that sold kitchenware that I just loved and kind of went crazy in there. It had really unique items, and I can't remember the name of it, but I know it was in that area. It's also where I first found my beloved IZIPIZI readers, that I buy every time I'm in Paris or London. You can buy them in the States, but they're cheaper in Europe since they're made in France.

Another place, oddly enough, is the train station. The Amsterdam tourism agency has a shop there, and they had some really unique items there, at least I thought so then. This was in 2018, so of course some time ago, but you never know.

Museum gift shops are often accessible without paying for entry, aren't they?

LiIZinPA is correct. No ticket required to visit the gift shop at Franz Hals Museum.

If you can’t go back to the museum, maybe they will be willing to ship the tea towel to your Amsterdam hotel?

Our museum shop at Groot Heiligland offers books, scarfs with prints of our main exhibits, postcards and gifts for young and old. These include unique glassware, Dutch design products, exclusive tulip vases and fun gifts for children.

Visit the shop during the museum opening hours.

You don't need a ticket to visit our museum shop.

You can contact the shop by phone: +31 (0)23 5115817.

We only accept card payments (no cash).

The museum shop is run by volunteers from the Friends of the Frans Hals Museum.

Thanks for the replies. I found a kitchenware shop, it’s a chain actually, called Dille & Kamille with a shop possibly close to the Jordaan area, Mardee. I’m going to check them out. There’s also a Moscot Amsterdam Shop that carries those glasses supposedly but it doesn’t look like they have kitchen stuff.

Liz and jeanm, I’d happily go back to the shop but it’s an hour plus away in Haarlem and I’m in Amsterdam.

And Mary thanks for the suggestion/link about the gift shop. I wasn’t able to find anywhere on their website for a link to the store, good catch.

Hi Lyndash, although Dille & Kamille is a great shop, their wares run more towards unpainted natural wood, metal, glass and organic products, with a natural sort of theme. I don't believe you would find the same tea towel there that you're looking for. But there are some really great gifts there. I was in Brussels in December and bought some gifts from the local Dille & Kamille store in Rue Jean Stas. I bought a coffee scoop combined with a bag clip for the coffee bag, and a flexible coffee filter made of very fine wire, to go in one of those filtering devices that sits over a jug or thermos. I have one of those at home already. I had bought coffee from Tchibo while I was in Germany on the same trip. Otherwise I probably would have bought some of their coffee as well.

Enjoy!
