I am flying from Gatwick to Schipol in April, and need to get to Amsterdam Centraal for a train to Delft. My flight gets in at 8:20 pm and I will have a checked bag. If I take a taxi, will I have enough time to collect my checked bag, take a taxi to Centraal, and make a 9:36 pm train to Delft? Thank you.
There is a direct train connection between Schiphol and Delft (cf. https://9292.nl/en for options). If possible, this may be something to consider. The link also will give you train options between Schiphol and Amsterdam CS for around the time you arrive.
I think it might be very tight considering the time at passport control and time for luggage being delivered, and then getting to Amsterdam CS, so going directly to Delft may work better.
Are you sure you need to go into Amsterdam? When I last flew into Schipol, I got right onto a train heading in the direction of Delft.

Is this part of a longer trip or are you trying to travel from London to Delft? If the latter you should probably cancel your flight and buy a Eurostar ticket from London to Rotterdam. That will save you both time and money.
And if you are arriving at Schiphol, why are you looking at trains to Delft from Amsterdam Centraal and not from Schiphol?
Have you looked into the train from the airport direct to the Cenetraal station? It leaves 4-6 times an hour and takes 20 minutes. Here's the link to the airport site which tells you about all your options. Complete link is both lines below.

I think the bigger x-factor is how long your bag(s) will take to come out, and
whether your flight is on time or not. Between those two, and the (less likely,
but still) potential of a line at immigration (I believe you will need to pass some
kind of passport check going from the UK into the Netherlands), you may lose
valuable time before even considering how to get into the city.
I would plan, or at least consider, taking the train into Centraal. There is a train
every 5 to 10 minutes and the train takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
But I think you will be sweating it no matter what, and there is a good chance
you won't make it.
Thanks very much. I wasn't finding an option from Schipol to Delft and now I see it on the NL site. Of course I prefer to go from Schipol to Delft without going into Amsterdam.
Please note the link to the official Schiphol website with travel options from and to the airport is https://www.schiphol.nl/en/from-to-schiphol/.
Also keep in mind that many shorthaul flights into AMS park remotely, and passengers are bused to the terminal. So another factor in figuring your timing.
And you really need not buy a ticket ahead, when you get out into the arrivals hall, look for the signs to trains, the tracks are basically underneath the entry hall. Then instead of buying a ticket, look for the posts with contactless, tap using your credit card as you go by, hop on the first train going to Delft (Any train going to Rotterdam or beyond) then tap out through the gates in Delft.
If you download the NS app, you can use it to determine the best train for the moment you need it. There are trains every 3 to 10 minutes.
If you opt for tapping in/out with your credit card (https://www.ovpay.nl/en for more info), you will need to tap in at the yellow poles on the ground floor of the train station next to the steps leading to the underground platform.
Trains in the Netherlands are mass transit. Think of the train system as a giant subway network. Trains have free seating and you can’t book a specific train. You simply go down to the train station, tap your debit/credit card at the reader, board the next train, find a seat, disembark at your destination and tap the same card at the reader as you exit the station. That’s it.
Thank you for the helpful information. I'm looking forward to my first visit to the Netherlands.
