Round Trip Transportation from Amsterdam to Giethoorn

My husband and I are Senior Citizens and wanted to spend a night in Giethoorn in March. Wanted to secure transportation from Amsterdam and back, but the most reasonable driver is charging us around $375 U. S. dollars round trip for a 1 hr 15 minute drive. I was advised that taxis are more expensive there than in Eastern Europe. We are also going to Cesky Grumlov from Prague and the round trip fee is $160 for the both of us for approximately a 4 hour drive one way, which is reasonable. Any suggestions of how to get to Giethoorn for a reasonable fee?

Rome2Rio suggest that you can take a train as far as Steenwijk and connect there to bus#70, which runs every two hours. One route they mention sends you via Amsterdam Nieuwmarkt and Duivendrecht stations, but other train options from Amsterdam Central would change at Amersfoort or Almere Centrum, instead.

This will all be quite cheap. The number of connections is one more reason to pack light. Or, you could leave a bag in storage at the central station or your Amsterdam hotel.

This is the reliable Dutch transport planner: http://9292.nl/en# On weekdays you have a more or less half-hourly connection to Giethoorn.
A single journey will be some EUR 50 for the both of you.

Thank you both so much for your suggestions. I will definitely look into this. We are travelling light, so luggage is no problem. That is wonderful! I was beginning to believe we would not be able to make it to Giethoorn!
