We have reservations at the Rotterdam Motel One in April. The hotel says to use Metro line D or E to Beurs to get there. Is the Metro easy to use, with good signage and easy to understand stops? (I have experience with the tap pay system in the NL, which is great). I just have NO sense of direction, so underground I'll have no idea where I'm going.
I have never used the Metro line, but have used the trams on a previous trip, which I liked. Is it possible to use the above ground trams? Or- is walking the estimated 20 minutes the simpler mode? We do have a walking city architectural tour in the evening, so may need to save the legs.
You all have been a great resource, and I'm so appreciative. I'm at the planning point when I'm making mountains out of molehills.
Thank again!
Have you tried 9292 for alternative options?
Barney, thanks, I will!
I’d just walk honestly, here’s why (if I remember correctly): once you get off the tram, you still have to walk almost ten more minutes anyway, and the sidewalks are wide and flat, so I would not worry about 20 minutes. I did day trips back and forth for the train station from that area and usually walked.
Such a cool city—enjoy!
Do you have a lot of luggage with you? And from where will you take the train towards Rotterdam? It might be easier to take the train to Blaak train station instead of Rotterdam Centraal. It’s only a 6 minute walk from Blaak train station to the hotel.
Dutch traveller, we will have carry on luggage only. Drat, I just bought the tickets from Brugge to Rotterdam. Oh, well, not a crisis.
We like walking, and as I remember, the area is pretty flat , so maybe walking it will be!
Thanks so much for your help!

No, it isn't.
Really, you have two options.
First, since your train does not stop at Blaak station likely, then once at Rotterdam Central, just exit the gates, then re-enter just using your credit card to tap. Hop the first train that goes to Blaak Station, get off there, tap out, and walk to the hotel. Maybe someone else has other info, but I am not aware that your ticket would allow just heading back to Blaak station, since you will have an international ticket, you need the QR code to scan out.
Conversely, you can do the same by heading down to the Metro, and take that to Beurs station. Again, simple tap in, tap out.
It looks like both stations are about the same distance from the hotel.
Since Rotterdam Centraal is a train station served by international trains, there are check in/out poles on the platforms. These are placed there so international train passengers don’t have to go all the way to the exit to tap in or out. These poles are yellow and they will also have a sign saying in both Dutch and English that they can be used to tap in after arriving from an international train or tap out before boarding an international train.
There are also red poles on the platforms, do NOT use those. These red poles are to pay the surcharge for the highspeed train between Rotterdam and Schiphol.
So if you want to continue on to Rotterdam Blaak by train, this is what you should do;
Exit the train at Rotterdam
Wait a minute for the platform to be cleared from your fellow passengers
Located the yellow check in pole.
Tap your credit or debit card at the reader on the pole, or use Apple/Google Pay
Take the escalator down to the main hall
Locate the platform for the train to Blaak
Go to the platform and board the train
Exit the train at Blaak and walk to the exit
Tap the same card or same device at the reader to open the barriers and exit the station.
Dutch traveler, thank you for explaining this at my very elementary level. This is exactly what I need! Thanks thanks thanks!
the area is pretty flat
The country is pretty flat. Sorry, couldn't resist. I lived and worked in Rotterdam many years ago. Big fan of traveling to the Netherlands. Have a great trip.
Jkh, great point, thanks, we may just walk.
