Rijksmuseum

For the Rijksmuseum, there is no such thing as a skip the line fee. All major museums in Amsterdam require you to choose a time slot when you buy your tickets. There is no extra charge for that. You then simply show up at the entrance of the museum a couple of minutes before your chosen time slot and enter the museum when it’s your time.
There may be a short line for the security check, but there is no way to skip that line.

I recommend downloading the Rijksmusuem app and purchasing thru that. You'll have your entrance tickets on your phone, no need to print out, just show the guy at the door. It's also extremely useful in finding your way around the museum as it has a function that will tell you where you are and will show you how to get to the next area you are interested in. Very helpful especially since I tend to get turned around in there, lol!!

It's also got a nice highlights tour on the app as well as some specific theme tours which are very well done. You can either read the information or be sure to take your ear buds and listen to the narrator.

@Pam - thanks for the tip about the app! Definitely could have used something like that a number of years ago when I could not for the life of me figure out how to get out of the Louvre :)

@MaggieD - Well, this will not be helpful but I do not find the Louvre app to be nearly as good as the Rijksmuseum app - either for finding art works OR finding yourself, lol! I've gotten turned around in the Carnavalet since the reno and had difficulty finding my way out of there, too.
