We are staying in an AirBnB in the Kadijken area of Amsterdam for a few days (after a river cruise) in mid-April and my B-I-L says we must go out for this Indonesian feast (assuming I spelled it correctly in the title) one night. We can walk quite a bit and will be walking all over going to museums and such, but is there someplace that does a particularly outstanding job on this? Will we need reservations? And while we are at it . . . any "must visit" sights?
I read Blauw was good and made the effort to go thereby tram (about 30 minutes). We did reserve. I would look at some restaurant websites and such if you want to find somewhere closer.
Cannot answer your question, but correct spelling is rijsttafel, a word composed of "rijst" (=rice) and "tafel" (=table).
My small contribution to teaching the local language!
Thanks for the spelling tip! Fixed it.
my favourite is in Haarlem so a bit far for you to go - sorry
We are visiting Amsterdam next month, and were interested in having rijsttafel at Rick recommended Tempo Doeloe. However, their website doesn't work and it is unclear whether it is still open. Does anyone know if that restaurant is still operating?
Yes, make a reservation for a Rijsttafel.
Must visit-Anne Frank House-it's my understanding that you will need to make reservations in advance.

we also hired a taxi tour to the windmills, small fishing villages, countrysides which was so pretty to get away from hustle and bustle of the main area. also took the train to haarlem, had lunch, roamed the main square and the had dessert of poffertjes, yummy
have a great and fun time. been twice and loved our stays

Tempo Doeloe closed its doors a year ago. Luckily there are plenty of other Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam that serve rijsttafel. Indrapura, Restaurant Blauw, Ron Gastrobar Indonesia and Max for instance.
We have eaten the Rice Table at Blauw several times. Always excellent food, service and staff explanations. Worth the effort. It will be a memorable experience. make a reservation or ask your hotel to make one for you and map out a public transit route. There is a tram that will take you within 3 blocks of the eatery. Safe neighborhood to walk in after dark.
