We are planning a trip to Belgium and while watching a day trip YouTube video on taking a high speed train from Amsterdam to Brussels I’m pretty sure I spotted Rick, you be the judge! It was about 7 months ago. Here’s the link, https://youtu.be/HP4opFVekwY check it out at 14:56 into the video!
Very possible. How the 'h' did you zero in on that? Were you watching it in slow motion?
Looks like Rick to me.
I think you are right!
@Nancy Well…. we’re avid RS fans and we’ve watched every single episode he has put out so we’re on to YouTube to explore other content until his new episodes come out. We watched it over a few times but my wife and I both thought it was him. Ha!
Then or now, it seems to be Rick, shirt pocket stuffed with a pen and more. Is he holding a Rick Steves bag in his lap? Only person in the car with a mask on, it appears. The guy sitting next to him, and the one across from him, don’t seem to be any part of a travel team. It appears he’s looking at the dude on the other side of the isle, facing him, who also doesn’t appear to be a colleague. And of course, he’s in Standard class, not Premium.
According to the video, this was filmed on Friday, July 29, 2022. Rick’s Monday Night broadcasts stopped last year on July 25, and didn’t resume until September, so it would seem he was on hiatus from weekly duties, and could very well have a been on his annual time in Europe, eventually doing his Mt. Blanc hike in France, before heading home. But his hike companions weren’t in those seats, so there’s not additional confirming proof. Anyway… he was doing regular Blog entries right then, highlighting the Art of Europe thru History that was being promoted- easy enough to do on the road with preselected, pre-written entries. No daily report about where he’d been and what he’d been doing… here’s the entry from July 29 last year - nothing Dutch, Flemish, or Belgian about it: https://blog.ricksteves.com/blog/elgin-marbles/
Cyn, isn't that blog from July 29, 2021? Not 2022.
Definitely him.
After five weeks in Spain we have been convinced we have spotted Rick several times, but maybe it's just that American tourists of a "certain age" all dress exactly like Rick.

Nancy, it looks like you’re right. And it was one of the more recent entries here on his Website. I guess Rick hasn’t been blogging much in the past year.
My daughter met him on the train from Istanbul to Ankara when he was taping his show on Turkey ... she had been telling the group she was with (a college study abroad group) about her previous trip to Europe and how we used the Rick Steves books to guide us around on our family trip to Munich, Prague, Vienna, Venice, etc... a few years earlier ... while on the train, someone mentioned they heard he was on board also, so she hurried to find him ... tracked him down in the bar, had a small conversation with him about where her group was visiting and got a picture with him (he looks like he had a few drinks already).
