We will be in Amsterdam for 3 days and would like to eat at a ricetable restaurant. Looking for suggestions. We have never tried Indonesian food. Are reservations necessary? Any suggestions are welcome.
The best one is Tempo Doeloe. You will want to make a reservation.
My favorite one is Indrapura. It's located in the Rembrandt square area of Amsterdam.
I have been loving this place for about 10 years. My colleged aged niece was there in September and loved it too. They have early bird discounts.
I found out about this place from an Indonesian friend. Can't wait to go again!
No reservations needed if you get there at 5/5:30 pm. Might need it for later times.
We enjoyed eating at Kantjil & de Tijger in April. It is near Dam Square. For us the ricetable was a new and fun experience. It is a lot of food! We were able to split one order/menu between 3 of us.
We thought Tempo Doeloe was better than K&T. There were more choices and the waiter took time to explain all the dishes and make recommendations. The presentation of various dishes was much more elaborate than K&T.
We had good luck at K&T -- we did a rice table and then later when back and just ordered particular dishes we liked. We did a rice table at another place we really disliked but I can't recall the name. The thing about the rice table is that they tend to be packed with cheap bulky dishes with a few succulent wonderful dishes thrown in. i.e. quantity over quality. We didn't find most of the dishes that wonderful and much prefer to order 5 or 6 particular things we like rather than be offered course after course of cabbagy or other cheap foods.
