I'm in my late 50s and traveling alone. Where do you recommend I go for dinner and/or drinks while in Amsterdam. I would prefer not to look like someone's grandmother since a lot of the places mentioned are for the... ahem...younger set. 😜
Where are you staying, and what is the price range that you are looking for?
I also ask where you're staying, what's your budget, and what kind of food do you enjoy eating? I've always liked a place on Haarlemmerdijk #28 called Balraj; excellent Indian food and the quality has been consistent for the past 15 years I've gone. The prices are reasonable, portions large, and the staff has always been very nice. There's also a bar at the restaurant.
If you have a taste for Chinese (although spelled CHINEES)in Amsterdam, I would suggest Golden Chopsticks within a 10 minute walk of Dam Square. Good food, reasonably priced. Will be going there again myself in August.

For a nice cheap lunch outdoors if the weather is nice Bagels & Beans is another place I like. There are a bunch of them around the city, and some have outdoor seating.
Have fun
If you are in the area near the Anne Frank Huis, check out Café de Prins. Nothing fancy, but well worn, very friendly, with perfect canal side charm. My wife and I spent an evening there (both at the bar and then at a table for dinner) and enjoyed it immensely!
