Reservations and Museumkaart in Amsterdam and surrounds

We will end our RS tour in Amsterdam and stay an additional 4 nights and do some day trips. We are meeting some friends on the same schedule.

We are interested in seeing many of the museums not covered on the tour and have looked into the Museumkaart. We understand that as visitors we can only purchase it at a the first museum we visit, and won't have unlimited use of the card (5 visits). However, we've done the math and having the card will save us about €28 each, along with some "skip the line" possibilities.

The question is, can we make reservations for museums ahead of time, before we actually purchase the card? I tried doing a 'dummy' purchase indicating using the card, but can't tell if it would work without actually having the card in hand, before committing to the 'Complete your order' button. We'd like to make reservations before we leave, if possible.

Sounds like you are well informed already! You can easily book your free tickets in advance through the official websites of the museum. A card number or any such thing is not required. Enjoy your stay.

Thank, Timbert!

I was about to attempt the reservation today since we had decided on a date and time, so it was good to have your confirmation of the process. I have now made reservations for Van Gogh, and will do Frans Hals and Mauritshuis later today when we confirm times with our friends. I guess we're not used to making a reservation without having to pay for it at the same time.
