Rent a car in Amsterdam, ride on ferry to Norwich?

Hi

My family is planning an immigration to UK and we shall bring over 8 cats on top of 2 adults and a 9 years old kid.

Our plan is to fly to Amsterdam, rent a car to Hook of Holland, drive on ferry and head to Horwich, then drive to the new home in Kent in UK. I shall drive the car back to Amsterdam to return say some days later.

Could you advise if this is feasible? If it does, it will make my trip very mich cheaper.

I heard of the euro tunnel has a restriction of max 5 cats on each car, causing me to look for ferry. Renting pet taxis is unreasonably expensive which costs 15-20k euros, and I need two cabs for this.

As I know I need the pet vacinnation and health certificate documents. I have an international driving licence.

Thanks All

I would be surprised if you would be allowed to take a hire car across the channel - check the hire companies.

Horwich is near Manchester. Presumably you mean Harwich in Essex.

I don't know, but it seems a lot easier to fly direct to the UK and not involve the Netherlands.

I don't know if you can bring a rental car on the ferry, but many rental companies will not allow you to take the car outside the EU. You need the see if you can find a company that allows it. Even if they do, driving a dutch car in the UK is not without its drawbacks.

Not being allowed to take a rental car on the ferry isn’t the issue here, Avis for instance does allow this.
The issue is that the OP wants to take 8 cats on the Hook of Holland - Harwich ferry, but the ferry company only allows a maximum of 5 cats.

An another idea would be to rent two cars for the ferry and take 4 cats in each car. Side question, are these cats experienced with riding in moving vehicles for long distances? I ask this because we’ve never had more than one cat at a time and neither could tolerate a moving vehicle without howling loudly for hours.

EDIT: If you are flying from ? To Amsterdam initially then taking a ferry in a rental car(s) why not fly from ? to a London airport? Do you have an airline that will allow 8 cats for a fee? If so, why not fly all the way to London?

Hi All thanks forvall your replies. I fly from Hong Kong, direct flights from hk to london seem not accepting pets. they can only accept cats as cargo and the tee is 4000eur each.

I got that I can fly to Amsterdam and Paris directly. as of the restriction of ferry, i managed tobpads the booking system to make 5cats in vechile or in kennel, and 3cats in cabin.

I think you'll find that that goes contrary to their policy, from EU law. You will be arriving at the ferry terminal with a car and 8 cats and the paperwork for 8 cats. It isn't permitted. Then you will need to deal with DEFRA in England and they won't expect 8. I think you are on thin ice.

Have you discussed your plan with Stena? Or DEFRA?

Then there's the question of EU arrival and inspection and then England arrival and inspection. Poor cats...

My 8 cats trip from Hook of Holland to Harwich UK is reported to be fine by the ferry line officials.

The UK pet health immigratiom is also fine if I prepared the vaccinations, chips, and GB EU and HongKong documents well before I depart from HK. There have been so manu successful cases for HK people to move pets to UK. There were even done cases for a couple to carry kind of 3dogs and 7cats thru flight transfer via istanbul.

Now my plan is to take Uber Pet from Amsterdam to Hook of Holland, load the cat cages onto the pet friendly cabins or kennels onbthe ferry, then put to a booked pet taxi or kind of uber pet when I reach Harwich. I understand I may need more than one cabs to carry all the cats and luggages.

Thanks All

Stenaline specifically states on their website that you can take a maximum number of 5 pets on board the ferry from Hook of Holland to Harwich. Are you really sure that everyone and every authority, not just Stenaline, is allowing you to take 8 cats on board? If they do allow 8 pets like you claim they do, why would they post a warning on their website that the maximum number is 5?
