Realistic Connection in Schiphol

Any advice?

Flying from Oregon, USA to Genoa, Italy in November 2025

Delta has excellent connections but lay over in Schiphol is ONLY 1 hr 45 Minutes,
That seems very tight to clear customs & immigration.

Traveled through Holland many times previously with delays.

Have my fellow travelers gone on this route, too risky?

thanks

Scott

That's not risky; if it is all on one ticket the airline will be obligated to put you on the next flight with space.
If it is all on one ticket you are only getting off the plane and walking to passport control and then to the gate for the next flight, not customs. You will make it if the flight arrives on time. Also between now and November the flight could change even if you select a longer connection.

The flight from PDX to Amsterdam is now operated by KLM. When you check in in Portland, make sure your luggage (if any) is marked clearly to get to Genoa. In the past when Delta operated the flight it was usually pretty on time or early. When you get closer to your travel dates (about a week to 10 days out) plan your Schiphol experience using their website https://www.schiphol.nl/en/transfers/ and download the airport app to help you navigate. As long as you don't dally, you should be ok if all flights are on schedule. Your current transfer time would be ok with me but nothing less than that (I've done the PDX-AMS route a half dozen times).

I can only say that I have had several connection at Schiphol, ranging from an hour to just under two hours, and never had a problem, always at my gate in plenty of time.

The process is pretty efficient, you get off your plane, walk into the international terminal. Follow the signs for connecting flights, it helps to know your gate, as there are several immigration checkpoints, somewhat allocated to a group of gates (though really you can use any). If you are late arriving, at the beginning of the queue, there is a monitor, if your flight is on the monitor, you are allowed to take an expedited line.

I'll just add one thing to the excellent advice/information you've been given and that is to look and see if there are other KLM flights to Genoa that leave after the flight in this itinerary. That will give you some "back up knowledge" in case of hiccups/delays. My experience flying from Seattle is that the flights often catch a tail wind and arrive a little early so I'm sorry you've experienced delays before.
