Quick weekend trip while in Amsterdam

We will have a weekend to do what we want.

If I knew what you want to do, I could probably offer some good suggestions. There are so many good options that it would be easy to run out of space listing them all. Museum cities, quaint villages, hiking, bike riding, modern architecture, historical sites, waterfront resort towns? It's all available.

Any decent Amsterdam guidebook will have many great suggestions for destinations that are within a couple of hours of Amsterdam. My suggestion is that you do some reading and narrow down your list to your top two or three. Then come back and post questions about your top choices and folks on here will be happy to help you narrow it down.

Catch a train down to Cologne. The big draw is their incredible or Duomo, but it is quite a lively city. The Rhine River is also great for river cruises.

Haarlem, Keukenhof, Rotterdam, the Hague, Cologne, Bruges, even Paris if you have time for a 3+-hour train ride each way. Lots more options. Are the rest of your ten days taken up by business, or is it all vacation?

Yes, we are going for a business trip for my husband. During our stay, he will be working during the week and I will be doing some sites around Amsterdam. Have a Keukenhof tour scheduled, plan on seeing Kirkendijk, museums, boat tours on my own during the weekdays. Was looking for a quick trip somewhere on the weekend in between the weeks he will be working that we can do together but is not too far so he will not be exhausted from weekend traveling come Sunday night.

Cologne sounds promising -- husband would enjoy a river cruise on the Rhine. I would love to go to Paris, just not sure if it's doable for a relaxing weekend trip.

You can also have some relaxed days in the eastern part of the country, having Zwolle (1 hr from Amsterdam) as a base for visiting the historical cities along the river IJssel.
