Questions about Museums in Amsterdam

Hi Everyone, trying to buy tickets to the Rijksmuseum and their website doesn't show dates for tickets. Do. I just purchase tickets and then pick any day on my trip to go?

How long is. the tour at Anne Frank's house?

We also plan to go to Van Gogh's Museum, too. Are there any other museums that are must sees in and near Amsterdam?

Also, are there any castles to visit near Amsterdam or near Delft?

Thanks

Muiden Castle is a short hop outside Amsterdam by bus or train - https://www.muiderslot.nl/en/

With regards to the Rijksmuseum, you do not need to reserve a time/day slot. And if you buy an e-ticket or have a museum pass, like the Museumkaart, you can skip the line and just head on in.

And a friend of mine told me that the Anne Frank tour lasts around 45-60 minutes.

I just returned from Amsterdam/Haarlem.

Allot about 1 hour for the tour of the Anne Frank House.

I recommend you purchase tickets online in advance for both the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. For Van Gogh, we had timed entry tickets for 9 am - we were very glad because the museum gets really packed and it was nice to see his paintings up close without trying to see and read the captions in rooms that are 6-deep.

The Rijskmuseum tickets we bought online as well. As I recall, I think we had to specify a date but there was not a time. We went later in the afternoon after the Van Gogh! A big museum day, but fabulous!

I highly recommend the Hermitage in Amsterdam. The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, loans paintings from their extensive collection to the Hermitage. When you go, keep in mind that most people do not see these paintings unless they go to Russia to see them so it is a special experience. Tsar Peter the Great and Catherine the Great were huge fans of western painting and have amassed a wonderful collection. I walked in to the Museum and purchased a ticket on the spot. Crowded but not overwhelming.

Also, go to the Dutch Resistance Museum, in Dutch, the Versetzmuseum (I think). Impressive and very well organized. I walked in and bought a ticket, no need for advance purchases.

There is some debate in this forum regarding the merits of the IAmsterdam Card. This is not the only multi-use card available in Amsterdam.
The current cost of the 24 hour card is around $72. Better value comes with longer duration cards (48, 72, 96 hours).
Check the attractions covered by it to determine if it's right for you.
I had a 72 hour card and received over twice the cost of the card in admissions and transportation value. Keep in mind, most of the attractions are open less than ten hours per day.
For me, it was an excellent value.

The Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank Huis use timed tickets as a means of crowd control. The Rijksmuseum does not: a ticket is valid on any day at any hour.
I find the Frans Hals Museum in nearby Haarlem (15 mins from Amsterdam) a must see. Haarlem as a whole is good for a day trip. Beautifully situated on the River Spaarne.
When you apparently intend to visit Delft, don't forget Den Haag (The Hague), which you'll pass coming from Amsterdam. It has the superb Mauritshuis Museum, a 10-minutes walk from the station Den Haag Centraal. In case you're a fan of Escher (and who's not?) another 10 minutes find you at the Escher Museum.
Consider buying a Museumkaart. At EUR 59,90 it gives you free access to over 400 museums in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank Huis, Hermitage and Rijksmuseum are covered, which makes it already a good deal. Besides it invites you to visit smaller museums, such as the Cromhouthuis and the Museum Willet-Holthuysen, giving a you a view of the interiors behind the faces of all those magnificent canal houses. Here you'll find a list of all included museums. You can buy the card at almost all the participating museums.

Can someone clarify? If the Van Gogh has a timed entrance, then if you have the Museumkaart, can you go on-line to get a ticket?

When you are getting your online ticket for the Van Gogh museum (or Anne Frank House) there is an option for Museumkaart holders. You may still have to pay a handling fee but it’s very modest.

Can you go on-line to get a ticket?
Yes, but it's maybe not obvious. After having chosen date and time in the »Book your tickets« menu, you get a screen »Select your tickets«. Click »More options« and select »Museumkaart (card holders)«.

Thank you so much everyone! So helpful. This is probably the best forum on the internet.

Rijksmueseum tickets are good for a year. Recommend taking the highlight tour (you need a reservation). Learned more in one hour about four pieces of art than wandering around for hours.
The VanGogh requires timed tickets.
Did not go to Anne Frank. Tickets available only on line and sell out very fast.
Muiderslot Castle was recommended but did not go.
If you want to see more Van Gogh, check out the Kroller-Moller Museum located in a national park near Arnhem.
