Noticed that a lot of B & B are closed. Stay in Amsterdam or in Haarlem? Any suggestions for clean with some charm?
When are you going?
Beginning of April. 2 adults finally traveling w/o our children because they are in college. (They seem to travel all the time!)
Hotel Vondel in museum district.
Did you search for rooms using Booking.com? There are lots of B&Bs with available rooms listed there for 2-7 April, the dates I tried. The only filtering I used was to limit to B&Bs and to require Wi-Fi and a 9+ rating. Stars are useless for B&Bs. There are many other characteristics you can use to filter your results.
Very importantly, you can see pictures and read reviews done by people who actually stayed there, then contact the B&B directly. Many Booking.com listings may say something like "Last chance! Only X rooms left on our site." That doesn't necessarily mean that there are no rooms left at all.
By the way, some of the charm you may encounter in any B&B in the Netherlands might include narrow and steep stairs.
Never tried Bookings. We enjoy the local feel of a small hotel or B&B...Thx!

I prefer staying in Amsterdam over Haarlem. I've stayed in both. I find Booking.com does include smaller hotels. I'm staying at the Hotel Fita in the Museumplein(?) on my next trip. It has excellent reviews and is a small hotel, which I prefer. I will read reviews from Booking.com, hotels.com, and even trip advisor to cover all my bases before I book my reservation. I try to stay with a rating of 9 out of 10.
