Interested in taking a bus as it drops you off near the attraction- however there are 2 different buses listed- 391 and 395- are they both direct? What is the difference? Trying to help my parents plan their trip-

Have you looked at the Connexxion (the bus company) website https://www.connexxion.nl/nl/onze-routes/bijzondere-lijnen/zaanse-schans ?
The bus is somewhat slower than the train and a short walk.
There is also the option of the express bus, see further down the page.
If you don't speak Dutch you can use the Google Translate extension or app.
Take the train to near Zaans Schans and walk from the station. No need to take a bus.
I took the train and it is a short walk (~10 min) from the train station. You will know you are in the right place as there is the smell of chocolate in the air as you walk past the chocolate factory on the way to Zaanse Schans.
