Can anyone recommend a private guide you have used to tour the tulip gardens? How much time would be good to plan and what other experiences might go with the private tour of the tulip gardens?
A tour guide is unecessary for the gardens. Just use the map supplied as you enter, or use the online map if you prefer. 3-4 hours is the average time spent. YMMV. We were there for around 6 hours. The official website is full of good info: https://keukenhof.nl/en/frequently-asked-questions/
If you want to combine the Keukenhof with other tourist sites, you can check Viator or TripAdvisor for combo tours.
I ran across a blog by someone who visited last spring. It's full of details of the garden visit, as well as mentions of other nearby activities like biking or driving around the tulip fields of Lisse: https://thrillingtravel.in/tips-for-visiting-keukenhof-gardens.html
Agree. You don’t need a private tour guide. Just research how to get there and back, either on public transportation or a third party carrier. The Keukenhof website has good information. We spent 5 hours there. So for us, it was an all day outing. The only experience on that same day was dinner back in Amsterdam.. but you might consider an evening canal tour.
It's a bit like visiting the Forbidden City. Getting an early start will allow you to explore without the crowds that begin arriving later in the morning. By noon, every inch of the place is swarming with people. Even then, it is a wonderful place to be. The gardens are truly world class.
I just got back from Amsterdam and hired a private driver recommended on this forum.
His name is Arthur Weegeman, email is - [email protected].
He drove us to Kroller-Muller Museum an hour outside of Amsterdam and hard to get to by public transport. He waited for us to tour the museum and when we said we wanted to see a windmill, he took us to one in Amsterdam before he dropped us off at our hotel.
We liked him so much we hired him for the next day to take us to the nearby cheese and windmill villages of Edam, Monnickendam and Zaanse Schans. His prices were reasonable, about the same as a bus tour but you can set your own schedule.
He is a retired taxi driver for 35 years and will pick you up at your hotel, take you where you want to go and wait however long you like to tour around and see the sites.
He will give you an accurate price quote before you leave for Europe and will give you his What's app number so that you can easily communicate with him when you arrive in Europe.
