Plane or train from Paris to Amsterdam?

Hi all, we're boarding a river cruise in September that starts in Amsterdam, but spending a few days in Paris beforehand. Would you recommend a flight or high speed train to get over to Amsterdam? I like the idea of not having to deal with airport security, but I haven't travelled thru Europe much.

The train is faster, cheaper, more comfortable and lets you see the views. Why would you even consider flying?

In Europe the answer is almost always, train. Go see The Man in Seat 61 for info on training, and then check on Youtube for vloggers who have taken that route.

It certainly does.

A bit of additional information:

  • Always buy the tickets direct from the company that actually runs the trains. In this case, www.thalys.com
  • Buy them in advance and you will save a bit of money.
  • Second class is perfectly fine, it is not like flying where the economy seats are small.
  • The views will be mostly flat landscape. So while it is interesting to see the area and the towns and cities along the way. Don't expect any stunning views… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcliR8kAbzc :-)

In addition to its being far less hassle to take the train, your carbon footprint will be on the order of several times less.

So be sure to buy in advance for best prices.
