Will be staying in Amsterdam in mid Apr. considering to visit Giethoorn, is it worth a day trip by train, will be staying near Cent Sea, hotel A-Train, Thanks, Len
There are no trains to Giethoorn. Closest train station is Steenwijk and from there you either take a bus, cycle or take a taxi. More information can be found on: https://giethoorn.com/en/how-do-i-get-into-giethoorn/. Giethoorn is really beautiful. I live in the Netherlands but had never been there until may 2020. We went there during the COVID pandemic when traveling wasn’t easy. We rented a small boat and were the only ones in the canals! That will absolutely not be the case now. Giethoorn is very popular with tourists and can be very crowded. I would avoid weekends, the week of April 9- April 16 (Easter Holiday week in neighboring countries) and the last week of April (schoolholiday week in the Netherlands).
Thank you for your reply and provided information. It is very helpful. We plan to buy the 3 day travel pass ATT, and if o k with you may I ask other ? if need prior to our departure. We also have tickets to the Kuekenhof Gdns on the 20th of Apr. this may take up most of the day. I would like to detail more about our trip to get your "feed-back and thoughts. Thanks again Leonard
Good afternoon, Leonard AGAIN, would like your thoughts on these places we plan to visit on our trip Alkmaar, Edm, and Delft , all of which we can do by train. If you have more interesting places we should consider please let me know. Thanks again L
Giethoorn is so worth the trip! When I was in the Netherlands last year I took the train to Steenwijk and spent two nights at a B&B. Rented a bike from the bike shop right next to the train station and pedaled my way down to Giethoorn. Found a really neat path (just a green line on the map!) heading back to Steenwijk that was only for walking or bikes.
We took a day bus tour to Giethoorn from Amsterdam. The tour included a boat ride and ample time to walk along the canals. I researched taking the train and then the bus, and it can be done, but the convenience of the guided bus tour was worth the money.
Derek--Do you mind sharing the name of the company you used?
Good morning not sure what you are asking about what company we are using if you mean a tour we are not using any company but doing this trip on our own. Leonard
