PCR test availability in Amsterdam

Will need a quick PCR test before traveling on to Portugal from Amterdam and I've checked out the links on the embassy's page. There actually doesn't seem to be a lot of locations listed, but it did say there are more locations that may not be listed.

Does anyone have experience getting a rapid PCR test the day before traveling back to the U.S. or another country that requires a test even if vaccinated? Looking for some convenient locations (central Amsterdam or airport) that have quick results. This just makes me a bit nervous since this will be our first overseas trip with tests required! Thank you!

I don't think you want a PCR test - you want an antigen test. Those are the rapid ones that are required to come back to the US.
Are you staying in a hotel? If so I would email the hotel and ask them for this information. I was just in Italy and my hotel was very knowledgeable about which pharmacies were doing covid testing for travel.
I'm sure there will be quite a few locations for you to test as it is very common.

annemargaret, thank you! I know the PCR is more accurate, but if the rapid antigen more often gives a false negative, then that's really OK, isn't it?!! So as long as the rapid antigen test is accepted, then I will seek that out. yes, I'm staying in a hotel, so hoping then a local pharmacy can provide that and I will ask there! We are traveling to Portugal, then will need to be tested in Lisbon for travel back to the U.S.
Another question for a friend----are there places where you could get a rapid antigen in the evening (like 7-9 pm)? Looking for some local knowledge or recent experience---our friend will be traveling from Amsterdam back to U.S. and is touring all day and wants to make sure he can get a test when he returns from his touring on his last day.
Has anyone else has taken the rapid antigen vice PCR?

In the Netherlands pharmacies are not the ones performing COVID tests. Covid tests for when you have symptoms are carried out by municipal health services called GGD.
Covid tests for travelers are done by private companies like https://spoedtest.nl/en/ and https://coronalab.eu/en/ and dozens of others. Just Google “pcr test Amsterdam” or “antigen test Amsterdam” to find more businesses offering tests.

You can get a COVID19 test at the Amsterdam Schipol Airport. Not sure if a PCR test is available?

There is indeed a business, called Test2Fly right at Schiphol that provides COVID tests. It is however extremely expensive, probably due to their location. They charge €119 for a PCR test. Spoedtest, one of the companies I linked to in my previous post charges only €79,95 for a PCR test.

Not sure when you need to test, but we tested on 3/22 for our flight back to the states. We tested at a location near our hotel in Amsterdam. It was about 2 blocks from Dam Square on Damrak (I think the address was Damrak 85), right next to the Amsterdam Cheese Factory. The entire process was very simple, we just walked in, filled out a form on google forms with our phones, had our test done and about 2 hours later we received an email with our negative tests and travel certficates. The antigen test cost 40 euros. We went about 9:00 am and there was no line. I believe they were open from 8am to 8pm and they said it is usually very busy first thing in the morning and around lunch time. You'll need your passport number for the test.
