My husband and I are going on a Christmas Market cruise ending in Basel, Switzerland. I'm looking at flights home, traveling from Basel to Amsterdam and on to the United States. Will we have to go through Passport Control in Amsterdam since we are coming from Switzerland. We've experienced very long lines there in the past, barely making our connections.
Yes, you will need to go thru Passport Control in A'dam before flying to the US.
You will go through EU exit passport control. When we did it in October, 2023 (flying from FCO-AMS-SEA), staff directed us to the E-gates and we were through in 10 minutes.
I flew through Amsterdam to the United States last September. The transit experience which occurred approximately 10:00 AM on a Sunday was a breeze.
Thank you! That was really helpful!
I might as well ask another question since you're all so helpful. When arriving in Amsterdam, which is the best way to get to the docks for a river cruise? Train? Taxi? Uber?
We did this in August and the lines were horrendous. The agents directed everyone to the automated stations, but those were glitchy so it was very slow.
any reason you don't fly into Amsterdam and out of Zurich, just an hour from Basel? Open Jaws or Multi-City should be about the same price and save you a night...
We're with a tour group so that is the departing point.
