Overnight Layover

Where is your overnight layover?

Well, I don't know where your layover is, but if it were me, I would probably try and get a hotel room at the airport and get some sleep. Unless you're the kind of person that can sleep wherever they want, I wouldn't try any sightseeing. That way you'll be rested and ready to go at your final destination.

It would also help to know the time of year, so that you can factor in the amount of light you would have.

You're on The Netherlands forum page. If you're layover is at AMS, there are lots of airport hotels.

If your layover is at Dublin, we spent an overnight at Clayton Hotel Dublin Airport. It was a 10 minute shuttle ride from the airport. I felt, with the good nights sleep, I was over jetlag the next day.

I hope the ticket was CHEAP! What a terrible schedule.

Rebook to a flight that doesn't have a 12 hr layover

Just find an airport hotel, have dinner and sleep.

By the time you go through immigration/passport control, going into Amsterdam doesn't seem worthwhile.

If this flight complete with long layover is the only possibility, I would check to see if you can get STPC (Stopover Paid by Carrier). Some airlines will put you up in a hotel for free if the only possibility causes a long layover. I have done this in Seoul Incheon with Korean Air, but that was before Covid and I know they temporarily suspended the program when flights resumed again. Other airlines do STPC so it's worth enquiring.

If AMS, then Citizen M hotel would be my choice. Yotel if you want to stay in secure area.

As others are saying, there are several hotels at the airport, take a look and check prices. Two other spots that are about as good, would be Leiden, which is only about 15 minutes by train, and hotels around Sloterdijk Station, which is just under 15 minutes. With the train station right under the arrival hall at Schiphol it is as easy to get those two places as it is to surrounding hotels at the airport. There might be some better late night dinner options in those two places as well.
