We will be in the Netherlands for a week. We'd like to pay the extra fee and upgrade our passes as soon as we arrive in the country.
The book says it will be sent to us within a few days. Has anybody had experience with this? I'm concerned that we won't receive the passes before we move on to Denmark, our next stop.
If you are a US resident, it is not really possible anymore. You can't pay for it with a credit card - only with a debit card from a European bank. So, unless you friends living there who will let you use their card, it can't be done. They have essentially intended this as a subscription service for Dutch residents (the idea is to bill you each year automatically for continuing membership).
My museum kaart has my photo, name and date of birth on the front so I definitely wouldn't count on borrowing someone else's.
“So, unless you friends living there who will let you use their card, it can't be done.”
People using cards from others and thus essentially scamming the system is exactly why the museumkaart now has a photo on it. Please don’t do or suggest this kind of thing.
Sorry Dutch traveler, you misunderstood me. What I was trying to say was that if you had friends in the Netherlands who would let you use their DEBIT card to purchase the museumkaart, then it would be possible. Never meant to imply you should borrow someone else’s museumkaart.
