Are there drawbacks to this neighborhood besides distance from Museumplein and being more modern? I am wondering about safety, noise from partying, tram and bus filling up with cruise passenger? We have a cancellable reservation for a more central place, but it's one quad room for myself, husband, and two teens. And the price at this aparthotel just decreased.
To answer my own question, staying here worked out well for us. The biggest reason is that we had air conditioning during the recent hot days, but we also liked having a kitchen for breakfasts and a separate bedroom. We did spend more time on buses and trams, but they are so frequent that it didn't feel too limiting and they weren't crowded. And despite the street being called Cruquiusweg, there are no cruise ships here, just lots of houseboats and pleasure boats. There are not a lot of restaurant options though, so we mostly ate before coming back and got breakfast food from the Albert Heijn nearby. There is no front desk - after online checkin, they send you a code for the doors, but it worked smoothly.
Thanks for reporting back. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay there.
Btw the name of the street your hotel was on, has nothing to do with cruises.
The Cruquiusweg is named after Nicolaus Cruquius (1678–1754), who was a pioneering Dutch surveyor, cartographer, astronomer, and hydraulic engineer, as well as one of the founders of modern meteorology.
Thank you, Dutch_Traveler, that is interesting to know.
