Netherlands NS trains - monthly subscription

**** RESOLVED ****

While looking at website for train schedule for Amsterdam to Rotterdam I noticed a one month subscription for off peak travel 5.95 euros, significant savings from one way ticket. Sounds too good to be true. It's cancellable any time after 1st month. Is anybody familiar or have experience with this? Am I missing the "small print" somehow? We'll be there several days before and after cruise, all off peak travel times. TIA.

Know nothing about it, but a number of discount cards in the Netherlands require you to link your Dutch debit account, therein lies the catch for a visitor

Thank you. I found the chat option on their website and she is replying now... you are correct. Must have a Dutch bank account.

I think you misunderstood it.

You can buy a discount card called "Flex Dal Voordeel". That will cost you 5.95 per month.
With that card you can then buy tickets with a 40% discount when travelling of peak. ("Dal" is the Dutch word for valley, related to German "Tal". The opposite of "peak" in other words).

So you get that card, and then can get ticket for Amsterdam - Rotterdam at 10.50 in stead of the normal 17.50, provided you travel after 9:00...

I lived in the Netherlands during the 90ies. They already had a similar discount card then.

Thank you! I did chat with the train rep and it only applies for those with Dutch bank accounts as someone else mentioned also.
