North Amsterdam

I recently booked an apartment in North Amsterdam in Buikslotermeer. Is there anything that we should be aware of staying this area. It is "an up and coming, green community".

It is not the tourist area, its like where normal Dutch residents of Amsterdam live. There is a big shopping center there. You'll be taking the 392 bus to get to near Centraal station. Goes about every 15 minutes and takes 12 to 15 minutes. None of those quaint Amsterdam canal houses around, reminds me of a 60's dorm complex at a state university.

I understand there is a free ferry to the Central Terminal from the North. I'm just getting reservations. Most places are booked already with tourists going to see the spring tulips. We'll be in an airbnb apartment. Safety was my main concern.

Look on google maps. It is about a 2 mile walk from Buikslotersmeer to that free ferry. I'd hop on the bus. Or you could become a real Amsterdamer and get a bike.

I have no knowledge about safety issues. My impression is that it is perfectly tidy bedroom community of Amsterdam.

Thank you Sam. We do intend to explore on bikes.
