I’m confused about whether I need to buy train tickets in The Netherlands or just tap my credit card. We’ll be traveling around the country and in cities next month. What’s your advice?
From my understanding based on recent previous threads, all you need to do is to tap your credit card.
It’s impossible to give accurate advice without knowing who “we” are and where “we” are planning to take the train to. There may be discounts available depending on the number of people in your party, their ages and where you plan to train to.
We are 4 adults traveling in The Netherlands: Schipol to Leiden, Leiden to Rotterdam, Delft, The Hague, Otterlo to Amsterdam, and within Amsterdam as well.
Within Amsterdam you can just walk or take the occasional tram.
For your longer trip from Otterlo to Amsterdam, you could look into a group ticket for the train part of that journey (Ede-Wageningen to Amsterdam) https://www.ns.nl/en/tickets/off-peak-group-ticket
For all your other journeys, just tap in and out with your credit or debit card.

Thank you everyone! Your comments are super helpful.
I can confirm that all you have to do to ride the train in NL (and as far as I could tell, most tram systems too) is tap in at the gate with your credit card and tap out when you leave. No tickets needed unless there is some sort of discount for a group ticket. It couldn't be more convenient.
