Netherlands to Naples,Italy by train?

Good Afternoon,
I am currently thinking of planning a trip to The Netherlands. We are also trying to book a second half of the trip down to the Amalfi Coast. I have checked and have found a train trip you can do that is 2 days (stay one night in Germany). Has anyone on this forum done this particular trip? Is there a specific train we need to look at booking? Is it worth it or do we fly instead?
Thanks so much in advance. I am just in the absolute very beginning of researching this trip so any advice is greatly welcomed.

side note: thinking trip would take place next September if that makes a difference?

It depends on what you might consider worth it. It can certainly be done, and adding a night train route to your trip can make the trip pretty efficient. But, even better would be to take a bit of time and add more than just one stop along the way. As for worth it, it can be a very scenic route, if you choose a scenic option through the Alps. A good start as always is The Man in Seat 61, www.seat61.com and www.bahn.com for looking up schedules.

Thank you for the advice. More scenic would be great. I will look into that. Thanks for the links.

I love trains, but most likely I'd fly between Amsterdam and Naples (or Rome) if it were me.

Thank you Andrew. I do think I need to determine how much time we wish to spend in both The Netherlands and Italy (plans are to hit Amalfi Coast) and then determine if there is any time to take scenic train or if we have to fly to save some days for the main trips.

If you have the time to trade a 2.5 hr flight for a 2 day train journey, it may be 'worth it'.

How many train changes are involved? Be aware you have to move your luggage from train to train.

Given the options you are contemplating, I would fly.

It's your trip, so do as you wish

Thanks joe32f
We really enjoyed taking trains the last time we were in Europe. However, maybe more time spent in our "main trip locals" is a better option....something to really think on. If there was a unique, comfortable scenic train trip, I may add a couple days to the trip in order to add to the overall trip. But not if if was simply "just a train ride" We do pack light - believe it or not our last trip to Europe we did carry on only and would def. do that again. Easier than lugging large luggage everywhere. :)
