Netherlands Itinerary

Hi all,

Looking to spend 10 nights in Netherlands, and considering this as our itinerary. (Plan is to stay four nights in Delft and 6 nights in Amsterdam). It would be just two of us, early fifties. We enjoy architecture, food, wine and beer, and I (more than my husband) nature. Any suggestions will he highly appreciated:

1 Arrival Day - Delft
2 Delft/Leiden
3 Kinderdijk / Rotterdam
4 Antwerp (We have already been to Bruges, Ghent and Brussels)
5 The Hague - leave for AMS in the late afternoon/evening
6 Ann Frank, Van Gogh and Heinekein Experience
7 Utrecht
8 Rijksmuseum in the morning, see the some of the city in the afternoon
9 Edam, Voldaam, Marken
10 Haarlam (optional)
11 Return Home

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Pat,

This is for early June, which is why I have not included a visit to the Tulip fields.

Thanks.

Was your schedule in Belgium like this? If so, you know what you're signing up for. I wouldn't want to have so few days spent in the city where I was sleeping; I only see two such full days unless you skip the side trip from Amsterdam to Haarlem. It helps that distances in the area are short, so you won't have to spend a lot of time sitting on trains, but I'd want more time to wander.

Month and year?

Why not see Antwerp last and fly home from Brussels? It’s a day trip distance outlier. (I love Antwerp, don’t cut it.)

Why not combine Den Haag with Delft? It’s just a TRAM ride. Amsterdam has more than two days of attractions.

I am used to traveling like this because so many places to see and so little time (and money unfortunately). In the case of Amsterdam we are spending six nights and I figure I can drop some of the day trips if we have to.

Tim, Thank you for the suggestion about Den Haag. We have Antwerp as a day trip from Delft so that we don't have to move hotels so much. Also, we are going to AMS around a concert on the 10th but want to return home right away because we have our son's college graduation. I checked flying into Brussels and leaving out of AMS but it is considerably more expensive at the moment.

I visited both as a day trip from Amsterdam. As I recall, they were only 15 minutes apart. Of course, then I fell in love with Delft so returned for a couple of nights on a later trip.

Maybe I should clarify: the plan is 4 nights in Delft and use as base for Antwerp, Dan Haag, and Rotterdam/Kinderdijk. Then six nights in Amsterdam. We will probably remove some of the trips of the last two days if we feel more time is needed in Amsterdam.
