Netherlands food: Tiger bread

A baking site recently talked about a recipe for Dutch crunch rolls. I'll be in the Netherlands in a few weeks and wondered if this was something I would find. Apparently tiger bread is one of it's names in addition to Tijgerbolletjes.

Tijgerbolletjes and tijgerbrood can be found in most supermarkets and bakeries, although you can find, in my opinion, way more interesting types of (sourdough and rye) bread in the Netherlands. We, well I, do love our bread, and most bakeries will have a broad selection to choose from.

I never thought of tijgerbrood as some kind of special or typical Dutch thing. I don’t like it very much, to be honest. However if you want to try it , you can find it literally in every supermarket or bakery shop. “Brood” means bread and “bolletjes” translates as bread rolls. So a tijgerbrood is a whole bread and a tijgerbolletje is a bread roll.

I don’t know if the Netherlands is known for good bread. I do know that Dutch bread is about the only type of food that I truly miss when I’m abroad for a longer period of time.

Oh yes, Dutch, German, Swiss bread is sooo good, you guys don’t know how lucky you are compared to those of us who live in some other countries that shall remain nameless!

if you don't have Dutch bread, how would you get the perfect layer of chocolate spread to land your sprinkles (hagelslag) on?
