Neighborhood for hotel in Amsterdam

My husband and I will be traveling to Amsterdam in late April.

It looks like there are a lot of beautiful hotels.

II welcome suggestions for a neighborhood to stay in or hotel that you would recommend?

Late April is absolute peak season for Amsterdam because of the tulips, Kingsday etc. Because of that hotel prices skyrocket. Without some idea of a nightly budget it’s impossible to recommend hotels.

It kind of depends on what you want to do. I stayed at the De Ware Jakob Hotel near the MuseumPlein last April on the advice of a friend here on the forum. I liked the location as my main goals were museums, lol and I like to be near Vondelpark for walking. Their rooms are very nice. There is an elevator but TBH, 2 of the days I was there it was broken so I had to use the stairs which are the steep Dutch-type stairs, lol. There are lots of restaurants in the neighborhood that are not necessarily filled with tourists. I just looked and a Comfort Double is 283E per night on April 23 while a Deluxe Double is 342E. I just picked April 23 at random and did not look to see if it is more on a weekend. It is not located on a canal is that is part of the ambiance you are looking for.

$400 a night should definitely be possible. In general, the best neighborhoods to stay in are the Canal Zone and the area around the major museums. I use a booking site like Booking.com to search for hotels that are within budget for my dates and to read the reviews. I always try to book directly with the hotel though.

We are staying in Haarlem instead of Amsterdam. The Flower Parade ends in Haarlem that Saturday, and the floats are on display the next day, Sunday, in Haarlem.
We are so looking forward to this experience! Good luck!

Hotel - The Craftsmen - it's spectacular. Built in 1500s, super authentic. Great service, nice included breakfast, good location - you can check them out on TripAdvisor - they are always in the #1-5 spot. We always book online on the Hotel Craftsman website. If you have questions about the different rooms, email them -- they are great at communicating.

We stayed in the neighborhood of the Anne Frank House. It was the Hotel Nadia. We stayed a week, total cost was $1000, breakfast was included. Room was small, but clean and full bathroom.
It was convenient to walking to downtown and to anywhere we wanted to see.

I loved staying in the de Pijp neighborhood as it was a vibrant and charming place. Lots of locals there, along with wonderful ethnic restaurants and the Albert Cuyp street market. There were little neighborhood wineries and bars, and an Albert Heijn and Marqt for groceries. It's not for everyone, but I thought it was wonderful. And it was an easy 5-10 minute tram ride to all the sights.

We loved the Vondelpark area and Hotel No76. We didn't want to be inside the rings because of noise and crowds and it was really a wonderful place near the museums. They have a fantastic breakfast and a wonderful lounge with an honor bar. It will be closer to $300 a night.

We hope to visit Anne Frank House, Corrie Ten Boom House and Van Gogh museum. Where might you stay?

Isn't the corrie ten boom house in Haarlem?
Anyway, I recommend the Jordaan neighborhood. Search for hotels there and see what fits your budget.

Yes…Corrie Ten Boom is in Haarlem. Guess I was wondering if with our sites we hope to see…Maybe staying in Haarlem or Amsterdam? I know…it’s a rather odd question.

We like to stay in the Canal Zone in Amsterdam at the Hotel l’Ambassade.

In February we are staying at the Cornelisz. I obviously can't vouch for it yet, but the reviews were all very good, and they have an elevator if that matters to you. I just got a new knee 3 weeks ago, so I wanted to be sure to have an elevator as when I booked this I had no idea how I would be feeling. So many hotels do not have lifts, and then quite a few that do the reviews would say they were not in operation all the time. So just in case this matters to you at all, this hotel seemed to not have issues with the lift.
