Need help with itinerary - Amsterdam to Mosel Valley in Germany

Need help in pLanning a 2-3 week trip in September starting out in Amsterdam and continuing on to the Mosel Valley in Germany around the Cochem/Muden area on a quest to find answers to some genealogy questions regarding my husband’s grandmother. He may be related to the Dehen Family who has a Winery there. Would appreciate any suggestions of how much time we need in each place and any stops to make along the way that would be interesting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will offer this:
We did a trip in search of genealogy only in the Alsace/Lorraine region in France.
We wrote to the mayor of the village ahead of time. He met us at the City Hall and gave us family information as well as town history. He also took us out to the home place which still stands.
I hope your trip is successful.
Our only drawback was the Mayor only spoke French. Fortunately our daughter was fluent. Without her, the trip would have been much less fruitful.
They may speak English but you will be more successful if you can do some conversing in the native language.
Recommend someone be fluent in German in your party if you are not :-)
Best of luck!
