Hello. We are planning a 3-4 day trip to Amsterdam for November (after visiting Paris for a week). Any recommendations for a budget hotel (ideally under 100 euros) near the city center or a good transit stop? I am unable to walk up more than 1-2 flights of stairs and know that many of the places have steep stairs. Thank you!
Check out the Owl Hotel. Long time since we stayed there but it looks the same on their website. And it does have a lift. We were able to walk to all the main museums from there.
We're staying at the Motel One. A little farther out, but tram stops close by. We've stayed in Motel One in other cities and really liked it. Check reviews on Trip Advisor.
Thank you both! Becky
"Budget" has its own meaning in Amsterdam. I did a lot of shopping recently and decided my usual budget for Europe had to expand by at least 50 per cent and probably more for anything close to the centre (my hostel days are long gone.) And you are right about mountain-climbing stairs in older places. But at least you don't have to worry about air conditioning in November. Keep at it: The city will reward any visit.
After scores of trips to Amsterdam where I stayed in several hotels around the city, I finally found one across from Vondel Park that had large, clean, air conditioned rooms, an excellent buffet breakfast, and a nice in-house bar. I loved it! I can heartily recommend the Hotel Piet Hein. In addition, it is walking distance to the Liedseplein entertainment, restaurant, bar district and to the major art museums in the city. Public transportation - trams - to the Centraal Station/Dam Square area is just a short walk away. As I recall, rooms can be had for about 100 euro per night.
We like the Hotel Fita...has an elevator and a great breakfast .
Not quite a hotel, but a hostel. We had a fantastic experience at ClinkNoord hostel which is basically a hotel (if you book a private room, which we did)
The hostel itself looks like a hotel, with elevator access to 3 floors. I traveled with 3 others, we stayed for 3 nights and after splitting the costs, no one paid more than 96$ for 3 nights!! We also had our own private bathroom, a double bed and a bunk bed. Very comfortable and not a seedy place whatsoever like some hostels.
You can see ClinkNoord from the outside of Amsterdam Centraal Station. You walk through the station and there are ferries that come every 5 minutes, they're free, and they take you across the canal and the hostel is a 5 minute walk from there. When you want to go back to the city center, just hop back on the ferry and you're in the heart of all the fun.
Hope this helps! Have a blast in one of the most beautiful cities :)
We stayed at the Hotel Vondel in July for $98 a night. Lovely hotel in good location. We got the good price through priceline.com.
We entered 4 star, museum district, and the amount we were willing to pay.
The hotel was extremely convenient from the airport as the airport express bus stops just 1/2 block a way. Several tram lines 1 block away with 10 minutes to the city center. Grocery store on the next block.
Our room was clean, well appointed and the customer service was excellent.
Hi! We like the Hotel Van der Valk in Breuklen which is convenient to the airport, and Utrecht, and 500 meters from the train station where you can take a 20 minute train ride into Amsterdam Central for about $10 euros. Lots of ground floor rooms.
