Museumkaart changes

Hi folks,

We are currently enjoying our stay in Amsterdam.

Wanted to make others aware about a major change to the Museumkaart program.

The card is now only good for 5 museums.

You can choose which 5 museums you want but once you have gone to 5 the card expires. We went to two separate museums to confirm this change.

The final kicker: whichever museum you buy the Museumkaart at counts as one of the 5 museums. So no more going to a less popular museum to buy the card to skip the lines at the more popular museums.

Happy Travels,

Wiley

This is very helpful. We will be arriving Sept 19th staying for 2 weeks. With the new changes, can I purchase the MKaart on-line in advance form the US?

No, you wont even be able to register without an address in the EU. For a non-Dutch address you wil also need a bank account which you can use for a SEPA direct debit transaction (for the extra shipping fee).

However if you are staying two weeks, you could use your Dutch holiday address to register via the form in Dutch (after buying a temporary card at a museum). You will receive the unlimited photo card at that address within 3-5 days. In that case there is no extra shipping fee, thus no need for an IBAN bank account.

Hi...we will be in Amsterdam from September 4 - September 8. We had pre-booked entries into Anne Frank and Van Gogh assuming we would be able to buy museumkaart at a smaller museum. Our plan was to buy the card during the Jordaan Rick Steves walk at Nieuwe Kerk but it looks like that is closed until mid-september. Is there another place along the Jordaan walk route that we could buy the museumkaart? We will not get into Amsterdam until 15:15 on September 4th and our timed entry for Van Gogh is at 9:15 September 5 so would it be possible to get to Van Gogh early, stand in ticket line to purchase museumkaart and then go through line with our timed entry tickets? Van Gogh said they are no longer selling in person tickets so i did not know if that means they are also no longer selling museumkaarts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
