Museumkaart

Has anyone been able to purchase a Museumkaart? we could save significantly with one, but all I can find is that it is not available to those outside the Netherlands. Is this true? The latest RS book is from April 2023 and apparently US travelers could purchase it then.

So from the responses received, it seems confirmed that the Museumkaart is not an option for Americans. Is there another good option providing discounted prices for museums in Amsterdam or Delft or Haarlem or ideally all of the Netherlands? We have a total of 9 days in the country and will be seeing various museums/houses in each of those cities.

The most current info I found, for our spring 2024 trip, was that it had to be purchased via a Dutch bank credit or debit card, and had to be mailed to a Dutch address. Seems to be designed more for locals now.
Have a great trip!

Some good information is provided on this commercial website: https://www.amsterdamtips.com/museumkaart. The Temporary Museum Card, bought at a museum and valid for 5 museum visits, may be an option The I Amsterdam City Card may be a good alternative for Amsterdam museums: https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/tickets/i-amsterdam-city-card, but looks rather pricey for just museum visits

Maybe something of the forum posters have experience with either of them.

AFAIK you can only purchase a temporary Museumkaart in person (not online) and it covers just 5 museum entries total. You'd need to see if the cost penciled out for the places you want to visit. The full Museumkaart has to be paid for using a Dutch bank and local address.

The iAmsterdam card covers a wide variety of museums but not Van Gogh or Anne Frank house, so you'd have to look at what is covered by it to see if it is worth it for your stay. The iAmsterdam card does include transit on some options which is convenient. I used one when I took my nephew on a trip there and we went to quite a few places I wouldn't have gone otherwise, but for the pass. But I was traveling with a 20 year old who was excited to go to as many places as possible - not my usual approach.

Not sure when you're going, but if you plan to see Anne Frank house, make sure you buy tickets in the correct window ahead of time (many posts in the forum about how to do this).
