Does anyone know of an organization that gives small group tours of the major museums in English? All I can find on line are French language tours. I know the museums have their own guided tours, but these usually have many participants, and it is often difficult to hear the guide and/or ask questions. Thanks.

Suggest you look at Context Travel. They have scheduled small-group tours limited to six people. And they will also do custom private tours. I have used them many times in many cities always had great experiences.

For self-guiding, note that Amsterdam Rijksmuseum's Multimedia tour is a little fancier than a standard audio tour. Rick's museum "tour" descriptions for Amsterdam are in the book (but not recorded as Audio Tours like his city walks are).
