Museum like the Musee des arts et meters?

This may be a strange question, but is there a museum in Amsterdam (or the environs) that is like the Musee des arts et metiers in Paris? We are traveling with our 12 year old nephew and 16 year old daughter. We loved the museum in Paris because it was full of fascinating inventions (past attempts at creating a car, airplane, calculator, etc.) I thought perhaps Amsterdam would have something similar.
