Has anyone been to this castle outside of Amsterdam? Apparently there is a ferry that leaves from IJburg. My mother in law has requested seeing a castle while we are there. There is a castle we can see in Utrecht, but the one in Muiderslot looks interesting. Thanks!

Castle Muiderslot is certainly worth a visit, well preserved, nice history and interior. The area around the old harbour of nearby Muiden is nice for a short stroll. Info: www.muiderslot.nl
Bigger, but in neo style, nevertheless lovely is castle De Haar west of Utrecht. Info: www.kasteeldehaar.nl
Not a castle but a palace east of Utrecht is “Paleis het Loo” near Apeldoorn. www.paleishetloo.nl
Or in use more recently north of Utrecht is “Paleis Soestdijk”, open to public till at least end 2015. Info: www.paleissoestdijk.nl

We ended up going to Muiderslot Castle and loved it. The gardens were beautiful and it was easy to get to. The castle in Utrecht ended up being difficult for us to get to as we didn't have a car and too far to walk.
