We will be arriving in The Hague mid/late afternoon on Tuesday May 6, 2025 with a tour group, and then the tour leaves early the next morning. I really want to see several paintings in this museum, including the Girl with the Pearl Earring. The museum suggests a timed entry ticket, the last of which is at 4:30pm; they are open until 6pm. I am thinking that it would be best to get the 4:30 ticket, but if I cannot get there until 5, will they still let me in? Any insight would be helpful.
Unless there is some very special temporary exhibit going on, the Mauritshuis doesn’t sell out. This means that time slots usually aren’t fully booked. You should have no issues when you arrive a bit later than your time slot. However I wouldn’t book a time slot and just buy your tickets at the door.
If you insist, you can of course buy tickets in advance, but I certainly wouldn’t buy them now. One week in advance is still plenty of time ahead.
We were on a Rick Steves tour this year about the same time you will be visiting next year; and in our free time many in the group took the train to The Hague to go to the museum. I'm fairly certain they all winged it and bought tickets when they got there; as opposed to everyone having pre purchased/reserved tickets for the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. There was a lot of chatter about free time museum visits.
I was on a day trip to The Hague in early October this year. I booked my ticket on my phone standing right outside of the museum and walked in immediately. The museum was busy but not packed.
Oh, this is all very helpful information! Thank you so much!
