Wow, no responses. I'll add to my question for recommendations:
We'll be at the end of our 3 week vacation. Driving from Bastogne back to Amsterdam with an extra day to spare. That's why we were thinking about Maastricht. Any better recommendations on the somewhat straight line route from Bastogne to Amsterdam? Thanks.

I have no hotel recommendation, but Maastricht is definitely worth a visit. And it's probably the best choice on your route!

Years ago we stayed at the Hotel Beaumont. It's been renovated since then and looks nice but may be out of your price range.
Check it out. Check around, I can't think of the name of the place but there is a B&B off the main square. The office is in a restaurant and the rooms are around the corner. Sorry I can't be more helpful on that one. I just checked B&Bs on booking.com. There are a bunch of reasonably priced ones. Good luck.
