I'd like to buy small presents for my neice (6) and nephew (4). We'll be in Amsterdam for 1 week, then in other Netherlands towns for another week. I'd appreciate any ideas. Also, if you have ideas for their parents too, great. Thanks!
are they Dutch or American?
Actually Japanese, but they now live in Portland, Oregon.
Soft cloggs for the kids. Tulip bulbs for the parents or tea clothes with dutch cows.
Check out earthen ware from Blond Amsterdam (www.blond-amsterdam.nl). Really nice!
Thanks for the great ideas. We'll definitely check out Blond Amsterdam.
The big thing I recently saw in Amsterdam was Miffy, a female rabbit created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. Books, clothes, stuffed toys and all kinds of other things. She's charmingly devoid of expression (maybe a bit like Hello Kitty) and every museum had some version of her, even Van Gogh, and there's a Miffy shop at Keukenhof. I somehow ended up entranced and bought a key chain and enameled pin for myself.
I brought back charms for my Grandgirls' charm bracelets one year. Familiar fairly tale picture books (Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, 3 Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, etc) written in Dutch another. For my one Grandson, football/ soccer team shirts although maybe your nephew is a little young for team shirts? Unless he plays soccer! Also cookies and candies that weren't on the grocery shelves here. Easy to find and fun to search out in the local grocery stores and what kiddo doesn't love sweets? Their parents...that's a little tougher!
