Help!!
Having difficulty with booking a room to accommodate 4 people; 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
Apartments were reviewed really poorly on other sights (trip advisor; booking.com, etc)
Hotels are expensive.
We have Never done VRBO and are very nervous!!!
Found the Wimdu sight with apartments/houses to rent.
Any experience? Suggestions?

Are you wanting One (1) room with four (4) beds? or ?
have you looked at booking.com? you can select the number of rooms you would like and also your budget.
I fly solo, so i usually dont have issues.

Rick's Amsterdam guidebook lists several places with Quad rooms just under 200 euros/night. Is that too much for your budget? One of these is www.hotelhoksbergen.com, with 5 self-catering family apartments in that price range.
herengract 21 b & b has two rooms- same floor- beautiful b & b- we loved it there
