Leiden hotel recommendations

Hello All: We will be staying in Leiden 4 nights in mid-April '25 to visit Kuekenhof, windmills, etc. I have reviewed prior hotel recommendations and have looked at Steenhof - too many stairs for available rooms (upper floors and looks like 4-5 stories high).. Also considered City Hotel Nieuw Minerva, but reviews were really inconsistent. Sounded like too big a gamble. Noisy, dirty rooms etc by several accounts.
We are fine with 2-3 flights of stairs (prefer 2 - 1st floor). Would like to pay not much more than 200 euros per night to include breakfast, and of course, always prefer a canal view. But that is not essential. Comfortable bed and quiet are best.
Ideas anyone?
Thank you, Susan

A shame about Steenhof. A solid 5 stars from me and my wife when there a month ago.

Hope you find a few good suggestions! Leiden was lovely.

In June, we spent two nights at Boutique Hotel D'Oude Morsch. The building was built about 200 years ago, and it used to be army barracks. There are only two floors and no elevator; if you request to stay on the ground floor, there are no stairs to navigate. We stayed in a standard deluxe room, and there was plenty of space. The hotel is not far from the train station, which makes day tripping easy. Also, it is an easy walk into the historic centre of Leiden. The area was very quiet and has a pleasant patio. I can't comment on the breakfast. We were able to make coffee and tea in the room, so we just picked up breakfast food the night before at a local grocery store.

I agree with Tom on all accounts- Leiden and Steenhof Suites! Sorry that hotel didn't work for you. The buildings are narrow so many have the stairs issue, and local building codes won't allow modernization. I attached my spring 2024 Trip Report, maybe there will be some helpful info. I also did a Search -above.

You're in for a treat, safe travels.

Thank you everyone and especially LaurieC. I researched reviews of Boutique Hotel D'Oude Morche. They were stellar!
I am trying to book there. There is a problem with their website which appears to be embedded in another hotel reservation web site so I cannot access the booking process directly at this time. I have however emailed them and expect to hear back during their business hours. Failing that, I will get one of my computer-head sons to help me navigate the internet problem. I expect to be posting additional questions as I continue planning. This forum is invaluable for these planning activities. Best to all - Susan

Susan, try using the WhatsApp to communicate. I'm not sure why, but it works better with many European emails.
Hope it all works out. Safe travels!

NR22. Is a great B&B I can recommend in Leiden. It’s right on the canal looking at the Koornbrug ( Bridge) and City Hall in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Leiden. Near the American Pilgrim Museum.and fort.
