Leiden, Haarlem and Otterlo hotel recommendations?

Dear fellow travelers,

I would appreciate any comments/recommendations you might be able to offer for hotels in Leiden, Haarlem and Otterlo. I have a number of days to fill in before my RS Belgium/Netherlands tour in April. In particular, I'd appreciate an opinion about Otterlo's Hotel Sterrenberg, which sounds good (and has a spa, for those of us who might suffer from jet lag!).

Thanks in advance!

I love the Carlton Square in Haarlem. Good restaurant, lovely breakfast, and very helpful front desk. If you're going to Kuekenhof, the bus stop is just around the corner.

I love the Hotel Lion D’Or in Haarlem. I’ve stayed there several times. Beautiful, large rooms with an amazing breakfast. The best part is it’s just steps from the train and bus station. Perfect when dragging yourself home from a long day of sight seeing or catching early morning transport.

We stayed at the Hotel Sterrenberg in Otterlo a couple of years ago and were quite happy. The rooms were spacious and well maintained. The building itself and decor are modern, the staff were friendly and helpful. When we overshot the hotel on the small bus that we picked up on our arrival, the driver turned around and dropped us at the front door 🙂 It was an easy walk to the national park, free bikes and the KM Museum. We spent the next day at the open air museum in Arnhem which we reached easily by bus again. We had breakfast with the hotel but walked into the small town for dinner….the choices were fairly limited but fine enough for us. I would recommend it without hesitation Strangely, we had no idea they offered a spa until I just looked. Not our thing. Safe travels. It was a terrific few days, pleasant and easy.

Thanks, Denny! It sounds like Sterrenberg is my kind of place.

Happy trails to you, too!

We stayed at Boutique Hotel Oude Morsch in Leiden in early 2020.
We were there 4 nights, so booked one of the larger rooms. Very pleasant stay and really enjoyed Leiden. Took a half-day walking tour of the city with a Rick Steves recommended guide to get us oriented. Also an easy day-trip train ride to visit The Hague.
