Leaving tomorrow for Rhine river cruise

Hello all,
We will be spending two extra days in Amsterdam, and we hoped to walk everywhere, as it is a very walkable city. But the forecast, last I checked, for Wednesday was 95% rain with 20mph winds gusting to 40mph! And that is the day we have tickets for the Keukenhof Gardens and Zaanse Schans... :-(

So here is my question. Taxi vs Uber. I have an Uber account that I created for this trip, but have never used it, not even here in the US.

Is Uber better/cheaper than a taxi? Do both accept US Visa cards easily?

Thanks,
Mitchell

I can't answer for Uber in Amsterdam, but generally during average daylight hours, Uber is cheaper. There may be surcharges late at night, or if there is a rush of requests from the same point....like for train or airport pick up. These surcharges could bring costs in line with taxis. They will automatically calculate the cost of the trop and you woild see any surcharges listed. You may accept or decline the amount and determine which Uber service you wish to use (standard, black .....which may he larger vehicles, or enviro savings which are eco cars and often priced $1. more)
My Uber account required that a credit card be listed. You account is automatically charged....no need to present Visa card to the driver. That is the peace of mind of Uber.
I suggest you watch some YouTube or read some articles about how Uber works so you understand it when you start to use it.

Sometimes Uber costs more. Most of time it costs less.
Too bad about the weather for the Keukenhof Gardens. Enjoy your river cruise.

How were you planning to go to the Keukenhof and Zaanse Schans if it was a nice sunny day? Yes, Amsterdam itself is a compact and walkable cities, but both these sights are located well outside of Amsterdam. So walking to these sights from Amsterdam was never an option regardless of the weather forecast.
There are special Keukenhof express busses from Amsterdam to the Keukenhof and back. And Zaanse Schans can be reached by train from Amsterdam.

Our day trip to the gardens is a tour... the departure point is less than a mile from the hotel.
Thanks to all for the insight.

Uber worked fine for us last month. Same procedure as per the US - the charge goes to your CC.

Here is the one difference I have found between Uber and a Taxi- in general, driver is more motivated to get you there quickly in Uber than in a taxi since it is a set price. Most of the time this can be seen as a good thing, but if you get a driver that is only interested in dropping you off and getting to his next fare, it can be a wild ride. That has only happened to me once out of multiple Uber rides, but it was quite memorable for all the wrong reasons.

“ Our day trip to the gardens is a tour... the departure point is less than a mile from the hotel.”

So you’re looking for a taxi or Uber to take you from your hotel to a tour pick up point located within a mile from your hotel? Where exactly is your hotel located? And where’s the pick up point? You may have trouble finding a taxi or Uber for such a short ride.
